An unbreakable bond. Kobe Bryant made a posthumous look in his idol and pal Michael Jordan’s ESPN docuseries, The Final Dance, on Sunday, Could 3.

“I grew up watching Michael on TV, and now you bought an opportunity to go face-to-face with him,” Bryant, who died in January, recalled of the one time he performed in opposition to Jordan, 57, on the court docket. ”You get an opportunity to essentially see and, like, contact and really feel his energy, pace, quickness. And it was enjoyable to be on the market.”

The emotional fifth episode — which opened with the onscreen message “In loving reminiscence of Kobe Bryant” — included footage of the basketball legends dealing with off within the 1998 NBA All-Star Recreation. Jordan outscored Bryant, who was solely 19 on the time, and took dwelling his third MVP award.

“It was a tough couple years for me coming into the league as a result of on the time the league was a lot older. It’s not as younger as it’s at the moment, so no one was actually pondering a lot of me,” the Los Angeles Lakers participant recounted. “I used to be, you understand, a child that shot a bunch of air balls, you understand what I imply? The Mamba Mentality writer’s look in Sunday’s episode left many viewers emotional within the wake of his tragic dying. Basketball analyst Rosalyn Gold-Onwude tweeted, “Rattling that simply hit me. Seeing grown retired Kobe, not too long ago interviewed for this documentary. Kobe was imagined to be watching this with all of us. Tweeting with us… RIP legend.” Lakers participant Quinn Prepare dinner, in the meantime, wrote, “That intro simply tore me aside man. Man I want Kobe was right here to see this man. Thanks for sharing that lovely and particular footage Mike! We miss you Bean.”

Bryant died on the age of 41 on January 26 alongside his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and 7 of their mates in a helicopter crash within the Calabasas neighborhood of L.A. Jordan was among the many mourners who spoke on the father-daughter duo’s public memorial service the next month.

The Oscar winner is survived by his spouse, Vanessa Bryant, and their daughters Natalia, 17, Bianka, 3, and Capri, 10 months.

The Final Dance airs on ESPN Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
